Principal's Corner

Welcome Back 2017-2018

Mrs. Sorenson, 2017 Tatum Elementary Principal
Mrs. Sorenson, 2017 Tatum Elementary Principal

Dear Families,

I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich tradition that has produced so many outstanding students.  Tatum is “home” to me. I attended school in Tatum starting in kindergarten and graduated from Tatum High School, so Tatum holds a special place in my heart. I have been in education for nine years. I taught second grade for seven years (six of them at TPS) and fourth grade at TES for two years. I look forward to the upcoming school year as I start my second year as Tatum Elementary Principal. As your principal, it is important to me that everyone that steps through our doors- students, teachers and parents are excited to be here!

Tatum Elementary is known for their dedicated, hardworking and loving staff. Our teachers are ready to meet academic excellence in a positive, fun and nurturing environment. They will do whatever it takes to see your child be successful. I am here to back our wonderful staff in all that they do, and to help be a part of your child’s success.

Our staff is committed to working with students and their families as a team. The rigorous curriculum is directly aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). To help each child achieve to his/her fullest potential, the school provides both enrichment and intervention supports for students. At TES, we believe that “Every Student is Special” and “Excellence for All.”

Research shows that parental involvement in a child’s education benefits the child. These benefits are higher levels of academic achievement, positive attitudes, and greater maturity and responsibility. Because the benefits are so solid, I urge you to take part as much as possible in the life of our school. It does take an entire village to raise a child. Your assistance as a volunteer would be extremely valuable to our students. Consider becoming a school volunteer. There are many areas where your help would be appreciated.

We welcome all our of families back to another great year. Please know that I will be available to discuss any concerns or celebrations with you through a phone call, email or conference. I look forward to meeting all of our new students and also seeing some familiar faces in the upcoming weeks.

Sincerely,

Kelly Sorenson
